VE can rev a lot higher with valve springs. It will make more power. But it will cost more. DET is cheap and very fast, it also has a broad powerband with (generally) more torque than the VE.

So has anyone here been successful with B14 wheels running something big like a 24.5"x8?

I just took my manifold off after 2 years of daily abuse. No rust at all. No flaking either. Just cleaned her up and sold her.

I have heard of some people getting knockoff discos that are going pretty good.

Duplicolor and Rustoleum both have high temp paints that are good to 2000*F. They are a silica/ceramic formula designed for constant high temp use. I have seen flawless results with those paints.
